The Wilmington Stingrays were 1-1 after day one of the Roy Hobbs World Series. Eddie Fowlers line drive in the bottom of the ninth drove in the winning run for the stingrays. In game two the stingrays were cruising with a 6-1 lead by excellent pitching from Terry Ward. Then gave up nine runs in the 6th to lose the 2nd game. The Stingrays are back in action today at 6 pm at City Of Palms stadium against the Cuyahoga Indians from Cleveland Ohio.
The Wilmington Stingrays played at City Of Palms park, spring training facility for the Boston Red Sox but the game got out of hand early as the defense let starting pitcher Dave Malkmus down early and often. The offense was not there either collecting only 4 hits by Kenny Smith, Bob Johnson, Chris Anselmo and Wayne Santome. The Stingrays will try to regroup for a 1:45 game tommorow at Player Development Center.
The Wilmington Stingrays bounced back and the bats got hot as they defeated the Livingston Dodgers 11-3 Tuesday at the Red Sox development center. Terry Ward pitched 6 strong innings and Greg Allen threw the last 3 as the game was never in doubt with a steady defense to back up the bats. The Stingrays are now off on Wednesday to enjoy the great Ft. Myers weather and heal up a few pulled muscles and get back at it in the last pool game before the single elimination begins on Friday.
